Wondering if your business needs a website, or if it's time to update your online presence? Then keep reading, because by the end of this article you'll be confident about what you should do to grow your business.

Does your business need a new website? Starting from scratch can seem intimidating, but even updating your business’ website might be too. Is it even necessary? After reading this you will know with 100% certainty if it’s time to build a website for your business, or if it just needs a 2023 update! Are you ready to grow your business through the power of online marketing? Then keep reading and we’ll help you identify the 5 biggest reasons it may be time to power up on your online presence with a website!

Disclaimer: Even if you have social media, your online presence doesn’t stop there. Many customers do online researching before they do any online shopping. That means, if your business is not showing up in their Google or Bing search results, someone’s business is.

So how do you beat the competition? (Jump to the answer here.)

Here are the signs you should revamp, or build a website:

1. Your business doesn't show up in search results.

When your target customer looks up the name of your brick and morter business after passing it on an errand or heading into work, they can’t stop to check it out. They’ll type it into their phone on Safari, Google, Bing, or another search engine and if they type in “Dave’s famous pizza” but they don’t see you they may wonder if you’re still open, or are relevant. They might give you another shot and look you up on Facebook or Instagram, but what if your social media handle isn’t Dave’s famous pizza? What if it is instead,  “famouspizzafromdave”? Or some other unique handle different from your legal business name?

This is a problem you could easily solve with a website.

In short, if your customer can’t find you online, your customer might not ever do business with you in person.

2. People don’t understand what your business does.

How many times have we said about a business, “Oh, I didn’t know they did that!” We wonder how it’s possible that so many times we’ve walked into a store, by a store, or talked about it yet never known that apart from selling apparel, they also sell jewelry. But all of this information could easily be found with a website that constantly updates its pages with information that an old or potential customer might not have ever known in passing your store. Social media also helps with this, and if you haven’t started taking advantage of it, now is the time to do so. Visit our social media account for inspiration.

“They place high importance on brand ethics and corporate responsibility, even more so than Millennials”

Now more than ever, businesses must be relevant to their customers. Gen Z customers aren’t just looking for a business that will offer them good food, cute clothes, or a nice set of shoes. They are informed consumers. They want to see that they’re going to a business that is equitable, personal, and possibly even charitable. They are more socially and politically aware and seek out businesses that align with their values. So if you have a brand that wants to advocate for animal rights, but you haven’t started building a website that reflects that, you’re losing out on a lot of followers. (insert call to action)

3. You want to reach new customers.

Let’s say your business is on the outskirts of the city, just 30 minutes away but worth it for many traveling customers. You opened a small restaurant 15+ years ago. With beautiful outdoor seating overlooking the mountains and a great view of the sunset, it was the perfect romantic getaway for many. Customers raved about your food and service on Yelp and that helped your sales as your restaurant became the talk of the town. That is until Covid-19 hit, and all your loyal customers stopped visiting.

Covid-19 has forced businesses to rethink their marketing strategies.

So what happened? Like many business owners, you might have lost a lot of customers, and even when people started to come out of their homes more often and stores reopened, the customers just didn’t come back. Some forgot about your business, and others stopped going because they found something seemingly more convenient.

So how do you reach new customers? Are there any customers you could possibly reach when everyone finds their new favorite restaurants on social media and not just Yelp anymore?

The short answer is yes.
Your website, whether nonexistent, or old, should be refreshed as regularly as possible so people can see what you offer and you can be top of mind when your ideal customer is searching for the best getaway restaurant.

4. Your information is outdated.

If someone hands you a business card with the wrong number and no email address, how will you contact them? If the information you provide clients isn’t accurate anymore, how are they supposed to trust your business? Customers have so many options, and if one business is lacking in crucial information, there is another business just like yours that will have all the information they need. Don’t leave anything outdated or missing. Always be up to date on your online platforms, especially your website. (insert call to action here)

“Keeping the content up to date on your site helps build trust between you and your customers. Most likely, customers rely on your site for useful information on whatever market you are in.”

5. Your clients ask for one.

This should seem obvious, but if you’re old school and your business has been doing well so far, but you start to get some new customers, or even potential customers, asking to see your website, that’s because it’s to be expected.

Gone are the days of just handing out a flyer or brochure.

Customers now want to see the social media, brochure, business card, and website. Okay, maybe not all of it and certainly not all at once, but the more they have at their disposal the more trustworthy you’ll appear. And with customers seeking out the best option, the more they see of you, the more credible you will appear!

Ditch the old school methodology, update your website!
