Once you’ve launched your website, the work of building and design is over, and you’re now the owner of a beautiful site that you can be proud of and show off. As a small business it’s definitely worth something to celebrate!

But what happens when you type in your website to Google and it doesn’t appear? Your website isn’t ranking yet, and that’s because it’s a completely new website-fresh to the internet world. As much as we hate to say it, the work is not over.

In this blog, we’ll show you the best tips and online tools to help you rank and drive traffic to your website!

While building your site, you might have worked with a website designer who asked you questions about your business-what do you do, what are your goals, what is your target audience, etc? Similarly, after it’s been built, you want both your target clients and your current clients to know all about this site! So what better way than to promote it to them?

1. Promote Your Website

Actively promote your website through social media and email marketing. Many business owners try to stick to the erroneous methodology of, “Such and such has worked for me before, so it must still work for me now!”. While in some cases that might be true (though very few when it comes to the virtual world) keeping your website the same is not one of those cases. And the younger generation and thought leaders know that. By promoting your website to them not only are you engaging with people that you’ve already built a relationship with, but you’re also putting yourself in a new position as a business that embraces technological advancements and simply put, aren’t afraid of change.

When promoting your website via email, it’s important to provide valuable content to your subscribers. This can include informative articles, exclusive offers, updates, or relevant industry news. Tailor your content to the interests and needs of your subscribers to keep them engaged and encourage them to visit your website.

2. Collaborate with influencers or industry partners

Collaborate with influencers or industry partners, participate in relevant forums or communities, and leverage your existing networks like LinkedIn, business or collaborative meetings to generate buzz and drive traffic to your website. Attend events where you feel your niche would be appreciated and talk to people there about what you do- give them a chance to look at your website or hand them a business card with your website and social media. If you left a great impression, they’re more likely to visit your site.

Don’t forget social media!

First, social media platforms provide a vast and diverse user base, allowing you to reach a large audience and potentially attract new visitors to your site. Second, social media enables easy engagement and interaction with your target audience, fostering brand loyalty and building relationships. Lastly, social media promotions can generate viral buzz and word-of-mouth marketing, amplifying your website’s visibility and driving organic traffic.

3. Set Up Website Analytics

Implement a web analytics tool like Google Analytics to track and analyze your website’s performance. Set up conversion goals, monitor traffic sources, and gather insights on user behavior. This data will help you make informed decisions to improve your website and achieve your business objectives. Oftentimes as business owners and employees, we can overlook our messaging, or perhaps not see the need for certain information, but with a tool like Google Analytics you’ll be able to see exactly where a visitor went and where they left. You’ll also be able to check retention, length of time they stayed on your site, and what actions they performed (scrolling through a page, clicking on a call to action button, viewing a video, etc).

4. Establish a Content Strategy.

Develop a content strategy that aligns with your business goals and target audience. Create a content calendar to plan and schedule blog posts, articles, videos, or any other relevant content. You’ll want to publish high-quality content as consistently as possible-and always have your analytics tool at hand to measure its success and see in what areas you can improve on.

If you choose not to post articles, it’s still a good rule of thumb to have your marketing team do scheduled visits to the site to ensure pages are active and still running. If you’re using a CMS like WordPress, it’s essential you look for updates and new opportunities to enhance your site. You might replace static images with a parallax affect, or update the employee bios with links to their LinkedIn and attach images from office parties. All of these changes contribute to the algorithm that search engines seek out when looking at sites- they want to see that you didn’t just build a website and leave it at that. They want to see your activity and make sure that if they choose to boost your website to the top of a keyword search it’s because you provide the best quality content.

5. Implement SEO Strategies

Optimize your website for search engines to increase its visibility and attract organic traffic. Conduct keyword research to identify relevant keywords for your industry and integrate them into your website’s content, meta tags, headings, and URLs. Focus on creating valuable and engaging content that aligns with your target audience’s interests and needs. Check your load speed on all mediums-desktop, tablet, and phone.

According to SemRush:

“Faster loading times (along with other important signals) can contribute to higher rankings. Page speed affects your search engine rankings because slow sites negatively affect user experience.”

Customers now want to see the social media, brochure, business card, and website. Okay, maybe not all of it and certainly not all at once, but the more they have at their disposal the more trustworthy you’ll appear. And with customers seeking out the best option, the more they see of you, the more credible you will appear!
